Sports Overload

Alex Pepke, Sports Editor

It has been tough being a sports fan over the last six months or so.
College sports were canceled, the professional sports leagues were postponed and sports fans, like myself, were left with nothing.
I don’t mean to be dramatic. Life can go on – and has gone on — without sports. It is just one of those things that is always there for us to watch.
It was weird to have no sports on for so long during the spring and early summer.
Fast forward to now. While our country is not yet back to the normal that we once knew, we do have sports again.
No matter the day, sports are on right now. When is the last time you can remember the MLB, NHL, NFL, MLS, WNBA and NBA all playing on the same day? Never? That’s because it has only happened once – and that was Thursday of last week. And now we can add college football to the mix.
For the rest of September and into October, all of these sports will still be going on at the same time.
It is easy to look at the negative sides of things right now. The year 2020 hasn’t been kind to most people, but as far as sports go, I am looking on the bright side.
It is sports heaven right now. There is always a game on, including playoff hockey and basketball.
In a year that so many of us have struggled with so much, let’s try to enjoy one thing: sports.
Take a break. Sit on your couch. Order pizza.
Sports are back. Enjoy them.
