Congratulations to Gannon’s water polo team as the Knights won the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference West championship over the weekend.
The hero of the weekend with the game-winning shot was Drago Marjanovic, who was a devastating presence in the water scoring seven goals. He also managed to add one assist and three steals to the stat sheet.
Besides Marjanovic, another notable player of the tournament was goalie Jacob Hollo, who won Rookie of the Tournament honors because of his 23 stops in goal.
The Knights will be moving on to the MAWPC Championship. The tournament will be hosted by Bucknell and will take place Nov. 22-23.
In other sports news, the Gannon women’s basketball season has officially started. The Knights, under “new” head coach Cleve Wright, kicked off the season by competing in the PSAC-CIAA Conference Challenge in Elizabeth City, N.C., Friday and Saturday. Gannon finished the weekend 1-1.
In their first game of the challenge the Knights had a tight battle with Elizabeth City State and claimed a 66-64 victory behind Tori Obenrader’s 27 points. But it was not the same story in the second game, as Gannon fell 81-46 to Johnson C. Smith.
Gannon will open its home schedule at 6 p.m. Wednesday when Fairmont State visits the Hammermill Center, so make sure to cheer them on.
The Gannon men’s basketball team will make its official debut Saturday on the road against Bowie State. The Knight men also have a first-year coach in Kelvin Jefferson.
Gannon had one exhibition outing, an 84-54 loss to Division I Indiana on Oct. 29.
Anyways folks have a good week and as always GO KNIGHTS!
