Playing the role of assistant director for the upcoming Schuster Theatre production of “One Man, Two Guvnors” has been a roller coaster ride, but not one of those scary ones. It’s been fun.
Working with a large cast and crew of almost 20 people, who will debut the show Thursday night, has been educational and entertaining. I learned how demanding direction for such a large-scale production can be.
Watching the actors develop their characters from day one was a journey worth every moment. I love the rehearsal process. That’s where the magic happens.
There are so many moments that happen only at rehearsals that the audience will never get to see.
They don’t see the process. They don’t see the work that each and every one of the actors has put into this production. The cast members deserve all the applause.
From Natasha’s fierce culinary skills, to Alfie’s strenuous attempts at opening some bottles, the show is filled with moments of pure joy and laughter mixed with chaos and confusion.
All bias aside, I truly recommend everyone come to see “One Man, Two Guvnors.”
Every minute will leave you wanting more. The cast and crew worked many hours, and literally put their blood and sweat into the set. But don’t worry, everyone is safe and sound. The cast is ready for an audience.
During my time at Gannon, I have been a part of many productions. This one will surely go down in memory as one of my favorites.
“One Man, Two Guvnors” is the last show I’ve been privileged to be a part of and I don’t regret a single moment.
If I had to do it all over again, I would without hesitation.
Hopefully in the near or distant future I will have more opportunities to be a part of theatrical productions, whether it’s at the Schuster Theatre or elsewhere.
No matter what happens, my time at the Schuster and the memories I made here will remain in my heart with the hope that I will return to make many more.
But at that point, it will most likely be the role of audience member. I have come to learn that’s the most important role in theater.
“One Man, Two Guvnors” will begin performances at 8 p.m. Thursday.
Showtimes will run at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday this week as well as 8 p.m. April 26-28 with an additional performance at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 29.
