The Gannon University women’s and co-ed competitive cheer teams have taken part in a string of events this month, and the co-ed team placed first in all four of those competitions.
The competitions began March 11 in Elmira, N.Y., at the Elmira College Competition where the women were uncontested and the co-ed team placed first. The female team scored 86.3 points after 1.5 points of deductions and the co-ed team scored 87.35 after 1.25 points of deductions. Both teams scored perfect in choreography.
The women’s team also got a five-out-of-five in tumbling difficulty and the co-ed team in jump difficulty.
The teams then traveled down to Myrtle Beach, S.C., for the CANAM Collegiate Championships on Friday. The women’s team took second and the co-ed team took first again.
A day later the Knights headed to National Harbor, Md., for the Battle at the Capitol. The women were uncontested again during the two-day competition and the co-ed team placed first both days.
At the CANAM Championships, the co-ed team topped a four-team field with a score of 85.2 with no deductions and the women’s team took second among eight teams with a final score of 85.73 points with half a point in deductions.
Iowa Central Community College took first with a score of 86.17 and North Carolina State placed third earning 83.73 points in the women’s heat.
At the Battle at the Capitol the women’s team received a score of 83.73 on day one after a one-half point deduction and the co-ed group earned a final score of 84.25. Both teams produced a perfect 10 out of 10 in toss difficulty.
The women’s team’s score dropped the next day, bringing in 82.78 points, and the co-ed team scored 84.59 points.
The final score was compiled using 25 percent of the first day’s score and 75 percent of the second day.
The teams will come back Saturday for the Road to Daytona Showcase starting at noon in the Hammermill Center.
