On March 8, 2018, I was pleased and honored to host my first big event at Gannon University. As the new Assistant Director of the Office of Global Support and Student Engagement, I’m always searching for ways to bring international and domestic students together. So, I decided that I would try something new and coordinate a formal dinner to celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD).
The misconception about International Women’s Day is the notion that it is a day to recognize women from other countries. In actuality, it’s a day to globally celebrate ALL women. During recent years the United States has begun exploring IWD, its history, influencers and events that surround this day.
The celebration dinner held in Yehl Ballroom Thursday could not have happened without the assistance and support of various academic departments and Gannon student organizations. They not only made financial contributions, but also went above and beyond the call of duty when it came to putting it all together. I would therefore like to take this opportunity to thank the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the Saudi Students Association, the Activities Programming Board, The Student Government Association, Model UN, the Honors Program, the Residence Hall Association and Sigma Sigma Sigma.
