Most known for his 2016 hit “All Time Low,” singer, rapper, songwriter and producer Jon Bellion has done just about everything in the music industry.
In fact, his most popular song, “All Time Low,” doesn’t even crack my top 10 Bellion projects.
The 26-year-old Long Island native is currently signed to Visionary Music Group – home of rapper Logic – and Capitol Records.
Bellion has released four mixtapes and one studio album titled “The Human Condition.” He has also contributed in some way on songs for Eminem, Rihanna and Jason Derulo.
Choosing his love for music over basketball after high school, Bellion enrolled in a highly acclaimed music program at Five Towns College in Dix Hills, N.Y.
Citing influences from John Mayer, Kanye West and Andre 3000, Bellion has a series of “The Making Of” videos on YouTube where he creates his hit singles from scratch and describes the creative process happening in his head as it happens. I highly recommend those.
Bellion made his first blip on the music radar in 2011 when he released his first mixtape, “Scattered Thoughts Vol. 1.”
He composed and produced all the music on the tape, which led to his eventual signing to Visionary Music Group in 2012.
Bellion continued his hot 2012 after being asked to write the chorus for Eminem and Rihanna’s 2015 Grammy-winning song “The Monster.”
Following that collaboration, Bellion accompanied Derulo on his hit record “Trumpets” — which wasn’t released until 2014 in the US — where he produced and co-wrote the song that has since peaked at No. 14 on the US Billboard Top 100.
Bellion began and ended 2013 with two mixtapes, “Translations Through Speakers” and “The Separation,” while appearing on Logic’s title track for “Young Sinatra: Welcome to Forever.”
Throughout 2014, Bellion released four singles prefacing his fourth mixtape, “The Definition.” Bellion announced his first national tour shortly after in October 2014 called “The Beautiful Mind Tour” named after his crew, “Beautiful Mind.”
In 2015, Bellion released sporadic singles throughout the beginning of the year including “Woodstock,” “All Time Low” and “Woke the F*ck Up” through Capitol Records.
In March of 2015, he announced his second national tour, “The Definition Tour,” which began on May 26 and concluded at the beginning of July.
In May of 2015, EDM artist Zedd released a song that featured Bellion titled “Beautiful Now.” He was also featured on B.o.B’s album “Psycadelik Thoughtz.”
Bellion released his debut album — his first non-free project — “The Human Condition” on June 10, 2016, with the lead single “All Time Low” releasing in May.
The album art, created by David Ardinaryas Lojaya, was designed to get the attention of Disney and Pixar in hopes of Jon landing a movie deal.
It worked, as a Pixar executive invited him to the Pixar campus, and he announced he might be involved in a sequel coming out in the next few years.
On top of the aforementioned “The Making Of” videos on YouTube, Bellion also posts videos of himself composing and singing the acoustic versions of a few of his hit songs. I would also highly recommend these to any music fan as they show his true talent and range.
Considering the several songs he wrote and/or produced for more mainstream artists, you can expect Bellion to have several hit records blow up in the next couple of years.
His music expands to ranges of all sizes and most of it is better than “All Time Low.”
