I’m not sure what it is this year, but I am really ready for Christmas. In fact, I have been since September.
Normally, I am one of those people who takes a very firm stance against listening to anything that even resembles a Christmas song until the day after Thanksgiving.
This year, however, I found myself wanting to listen to those familiar tunes before Halloween even arrived. I resisted the urge to listen to my Carpenters Christmas Pandora station, but boy was it difficult.
I’m not sure what started this deep craving for Christmas — perhaps it’s a way to combat all of the stress of this semester — but I’m glad that the holiday season is finally upon us.
I was hoping that my family would be able to decorate our house before I returned from Thanksgiving break, but my work schedule combined with the fact that my parents just put in a new kitchen that needed to be put back together made this an unattainable goal.
My roommates and I made up for this by decorating our apartment as soon as we had all returned to campus. It’s a little bit like Christmas threw up, but in the best way possible. We put up our little pencil tree, as well as a pink tabletop tree, a nativity scene, a poinsettia plant and a wooden snowman.
My roommate Katie and I may have gone a little Christmas crazy while our two other roommates, Mary Kate and Olivia, were away from the room.
In addition to all the aforementioned Christmas decorations, we put holiday-themed window clings on the mirrors in our vanity area and our dining room window. Katie also decorated our floor lamp by wrapping ribbon around the base. What can I say – we love decorations.
As the last-minute assignments for the end of the semester pile up and the dread of finals sets in, it’s nice to be surrounded by Christmas cheer. It really is the little things that make the biggest difference sometimes. I am thankful my roommates are as excited about the holiday season as I am.
I am also incredibly thankful that the end of the semester is within reach. Don’t get me wrong, I genuinely enjoy the courses I am taking. But as much as I loved my classes this semester, I am so ready for a break.
I think my brain would turn to mush if I had to learn much more this semester. There is only so much information you can cram into your brain in a short amount of time, and I think I have definitely reached my limit.
Try not to let the stress of the end of the semester get to you. The light at the end of the proverbial tunnel is getting brighter. You can make it through this next week.
Have a very merry Christmas and a wonderful rest of the holiday season. Take advantage of the time off to rest and recuperate. Next semester will be here before you know it.
