Gannon University alum Joseph Robie performs the ceremonial puck drop at a hockey game on Nov. 30, 1973. Robie graduated from Gannon in 1949 and went on to serve in the U.S. Army during World War II as a paratrooper, play semi professional football for the Erie Vets and become Erie City Council president. He also served as the assistant to Mayor Lou Tullio, who was also Gannon’s first football coach and former athletic director.
