The Gannon University volleyball team won the PSAC championship title Saturday for the second time in five years as the Knights swept Pitt-Johnstown in three sets at the Hammermill Center.
The triumph marked Gannon’s second conference title in its nine years in the PSAC, and its first since 2012.
With the conference crown, the Knights improved to 30-3 overall on the season earned the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional tournament.
Gannon will open tournament play against Fairmont State on Friday, Dec. 2, in Wheeling, W. Va.
This will be the Knights eighth consecutive NCAA tournament appearance.
Last year, Gannon reached the round of 16 before being eliminated by eventual NCAA champion Wheeling Jesuit, which will host this year’s regional.
Four other PSAC teams will be playing in the national tournament – Edinboro, California (Pa.), Pitt-Johnstown and Shippensburg.
The winner of the Gannon-Fairmont State will play the winner of the Edinboro-Shippensburg matchup on Saturday, Dec. 3.
