Gannon University has appointed Walter Iwanenko, Jr., Ph. D., as vice president for academic affairs.
As the university’s chief academic officer, Iwanenko will be responsible for leading the rapid growth in educational programming and supporting the continuous improvement in exceptional teaching, learning and scholarly work of the faculty, staff and students, according to a university news release.
According to the university, Iwanenko’s academic and professional background make him well suited to serve the needs of Gannon’s current and future students as well as the needs of the communities the university serves in Erie, Florida and across the globe.
It also said he will be a key member of the leadership team ensuring student academic achievement and the personal and professional success of students and alumni.
Iwanenko most recently served as dean of adult and graduate studies and professor of public administration at Hilbert College in Hamburg, N.Y., positions that he held since 2011.
Prior to his tenure at Hilbert, Iwanenko was a professor and health services administration department chair at D’Youville College in Buffalo, N.Y. He is a graduate of D’Youville, where he obtained bachelor’s and master’s degrees in occupational therapy. He also earned a doctorate in epidemiology and community health from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine.
