Congratulations, you made it through advising day. Maybe you’ve noticed the fundraisers going on as we get closer to Thanksgiving break from the T.R.A.V.E.L. program kids.
It might be easier to avoid them at all costs as you make your way to lunch, but keep in mind that you will be probably be on the other end of one of those tables at some point. Everything’s cyclical from this point on, including the acronyms Gannon is so famous for.
Among them are the T.R.A.V.E.L. program, (Transforming Residents Abroad Via Engaged Learning), S.A.V.E. and the multifaceted wellness matrix that decorates the back of the university planners Good for U (GU).
It takes some effort to come up with an acronym that relates to the topic by spelling out a relevant word. Biology majors have to learn the most common elements with the acronym CHNOPS, which doesn’t mean much of anything without a periodic table to translate.
Someone probably had to come up with that catchall for the T.R.A.V.E.L program, just like someone has to sell those little charm bracelets. While it might seem ridiculous to see so many of these words punctuated at every single letter, someone stayed up all night putting it together.
Imagine trying to come up with one word that holds value and significance to the mission of your organization or club, and the lengthily title of it? It wouldn’t be something you come up with in just one day.
There’s something to think about the next time you’re bombarded by fellow students’ fundraising tables in Waldron. The punctuated lettering wasn’t by accident.
