Every year Gannon University’s Honors Theater fraternity, Alpha Psi Omega, holds a haunted house in the Schuster Theatre. Last year patrons of Stage Fright were greeted with a spine-chilling church theme and were able to walk around interacting with the ghoulish congregation that dwelled inside.
However, that is not the case this year. In the place of a haunted house, a play fest, a series of short plays, will be held to commemorate everything that embodies Halloween.
Different, however, does not mean worse, so if you are someone who attended Stage Fright last year and are skeptical about the change, don’t be. This year will be every bit as scary, if not more.
“This year we are changing it up and putting on a 10-minute play festival,” said Michael Haas, President of Alpha Psi Omega. “All the shows have four actors or less and deal with the horrific and terrifying realities of life.”
If you like to be scared then this is the event for you. Stage Fright performances will be at 8 p.m., 10 p.m. and midnight on Oct. 23-24. There will also be performances the following weekend, at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Oct. 30-31.
Now, if you are an individual who is more inclined to scare rather than be scared then this is the time for you to act, both literally and metaphorically. The same can be said for someone simply looking to participate in theater on campus.
If you are a student looking to get involved in the theater then look no more. Come audition for Stage Fright on either Thursday or Friday. The auditions will begin at 5 p.m. and it is asked that everyone come a few minutes prior to fill out audition form information.
Auditions will take place at the Schuster Theatre. Students should have a 1-2 minute contemporary and dark monologue prepared. Students should also come with their class and work schedule and should make note of any dates when they will not be available for rehearsal.
“Auditions are open to any student, and it’s a great way to get involved in the theater without taking on a huge commitment,” Haas said.
So if you feel so inclined, make your way to the Schuster Theatre Thursday or Friday to audition for a chance to get active on campus, to perform in the theater, and most importantly to be a part of the scariest event to take place at Gannon this year.
