Erie, PA. — Gannon University welcomed a special guest on Monday, Oct. 28 as part of the Jefferson Educational Society’s Global Summit event. Former ESPN Senior NBA advisor and current St. Bonaventure general manager Adrian “Woj” Wojnarowski spoke at the Yehl Ballroom about the future of college athletics and sports media.
The award-winning journalist sat down for a conversation where he talked about several topics including his career, his new role as GM, and how name, image, and likeness (N.I.L.) is affecting the present and future of college sports.
Woj left his lucrative position at ESPN to return to St. Bonaventure in 2024 and serve as the team’s first ever general manager. He aspired to lead the program during this new, ever-changing college landscape. He said, “I just felt like I have done everything I wanted to do in the [journalism] business.”
Woj was most famous for breaking news on social media and became known for his “Woj Bomb” where he would reveal a blockbuster trade or signing. While his life as a GM is not any easier, it has given him more opportunities to put the phone down. His favorite part of his new role is working with the players.
He answered some fan questions including the transfer portal, his legacy, and who the NBA’s G.O.A.T. is. He made a bold prediction that in 10 years, he would argue that San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama could become the greatest of all time.
The Global Summit XVII continues Nov. 3, featuring Richard J. Berry, Greg Fischer, and William Peduto. This conference is called “American Progress from the Front Lines: Examining the Local-Level Action, Innovation, And Solutions to Cities Challenges in Chaotic Times.”
