It was not a good weekend for the Gannon University men’s and women’s swim teams, as both fell to Canisius University in a meet held Saturday in Buffalo, N.Y.
The Gannon men saw their two-meet win streak snapped in a 167-125 loss.
The women´s team also was hosted by the Golden Griffins, who came away with a 182-110 victory.
In the men´s meet, Gannon finished with a trio of three-event winners: Robert Bolmanski, Jon Ekas and Brent Benedict. The Knights also hit 18 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying times.
Benedict won the 50-yard freestyle (21.24 seconds), the 200 individual medley (1:56.86) and the 400 freestyle relay with Ekas, Bolmanski and Luke Engel (3:10.98).
Bolmanski won the 200 and 500 freestyle competitions (1:42.84 and 4:44.75, respectively).
Ekas captured the 100 and 200 backstroke (52.68 and 1:56.85, respectively). David Gallion recorded one win in the 200 butterfly (1:55.62).
In the women´s meet, Silvija Taraska was a two-event winner for the Knights, winning the 200 IM with a time of 2:15.42 and also teaming with Courteney Hubert, Celia Kottakis and Allison Ahl to take the 400 freestyle relay in 3:40.00.
Zoe Snyder won the 50 freestyle (24.84), Lilija Taraska captured gold in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.50) and Marissa Scott took the 200 breaststroke (2:33.29).
Gannon swimmers recorded 11 PSAC qualifying times.
Saturday’s meet with Canisius was the Knights’ final dual meet of the season. They will be away from competition until the PSAC Championships, which will take place Feb. 20-23 at the Graham Aquatic Center in York, Pa.
