Gannon University’s Good for U initiative has been promoting all aspects of wellness to students, faculty and staff throughout the year, and is excited to announce that there will be another opportunity for members of the Gannon community coming up.

All are invited to the NIRSA Recreational Sports and Fitness Day, which will take place Thursday, but Gannon’s Recreation and Wellness Center will be celebrating Tuesday.

NIRSA is the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association, headquartered in Corvallis, Ore., that is dedicated to help individuals foster a lifelong habit of well-being while helping professionals, students and businesses work on skills such as leadership, teamwork, respect and dedication.

There are two large moving parts to NIRSA, which includes its not-for-profit charity, the NIRSA Foundation, which awards a multitude of scholarships to worthy professionals and students for educational purposes.

The NIRSA Services Corporation (NSC) has also helped in managing NIRSA-sponsored and/or endorsed programs and events so that the members have the ability to grow in many aspects of leadership.

Many campuses across the country are participating in this day of recreation and wellness in different ways.

Gannon University’s Recreation and Wellness Center (RWC) will be hosting its own series of activities throughout the day and Chad Indorf, assistant director of intramurals and club sports, said he’s looking forward to the upcoming event.

“I am excited about getting students, faculty and staff out to the Recreation Center and hopefully gain knowledge about what our mission is and an understanding about our partnership with NIRSA, including the importance of staying active and staying healthy on a college campus,” Indorf said.

The RWC will be filled with all types of activities and competitions to win potential prizes. There will be group fitness classes, a “Hotshot” basketball competition, a push-up competition, an “Expresso Bike Challenge” and other mini-competitions of athleticism all throughout the day to keep members of the community engaged.

However, Rec Day is only one day of the year that members of the community can come and enjoy the high-tech equipment and intense group fitness classes that the RWC has to offer.

During the year, there are multiple group fitness classes, such as BODYPUMP six times a week, and for those not looking for an intense workout, six yoga classes that are offered throughout the week.

Rec Day is a great opportunity for members of the community to come to the RWC and learn what is available. By using the hashtag #RecDay, you can get the word out to NIRSA that the RWC and Gannon are celebrating this day and working on wellness.
